The Adventures of Pettson and Findus
Meet Findus—the adorable, clever little cat—and Pettson—the loving forgetful farmer—in this charming series of illustrated storybooks filled with humor and heart. Old man Pettson is lonely until his neighbor brings him a box that reads: “Findus Green Peas.” But when Pettson opens the box he doesn’t see peas . . . he sees a tiny kitten. Pettson’s lonely days are over and he talks like he’s never talked before—and soon Findus himself is talking. What a cat he has! But when the house is suddenly quiet and empty, Pettson knows something is wrong—Findus is missing!
"Findus Disappears!" has the time-out-of-time feel of a folk tale and a sweet, rustic appeal...Nordqvist’s detailed, expressive illustrations have enormous charm.
New York Times Book Review
....this amusing picture book indeed offers a good story to tell, with a text sufficiently well crafted and detailed enough to engage children who may be reading on their own but still enjoy hearing books read aloud. The colorful, detailed ink-and-wash illustrations are full of energy and wit.
Carolyn Phelan, Booklist, Starred Review
The charm of the writing has much to recommend it, but it's the art that is the true star of the show. No matter how raucous or riotous Nordqvist's illustrations become, there's still room to include little Zen details, such as the chicken with its comb in a single hair roller or a pair of pups in a tree staring lovingly at the moon.
The delightful, chaotic, jumbled illustrations of Pettson's house and Findus' explorations convey eccentric original charm and personality, friendship, security, and warmth.
Midwest Book Review
It’s not often that we come across books with such immediate and lasting appeal as Sven Nordqvist’s ‘Findus’ series. The stories are ingenious, the characters are quirky and original, and the illustrations are absolutely delightful... I can’t recommend them highly enough. Hurrah for Findus!
