Selma
The Story of a Stellar Spider
A standout new picture book talent spins the story of a one-of-a-kind spider with an unstoppable artistic spirit.
Selma is no ordinary spider. Most spiders make webs to catch flies, but not Selma. She wants to capture the Splendor of the Universe. But it’s hard to reach the stars from so close to the ground!
So Selma sets off to discover just how far a humble spider must spin to become out of this world . . .
Equal parts silly, unexpected, and inspiring, Selma’s story is one to savor.

Children's Literature Review
As the director of a small library, I run the children's program and purchase the titles. After reading Selma, I immediately purchased it. What I love - this is a book that is perfect for story time. It has engaging illustrations and short text (but meaningful). This is a new take on several age old life lessons - you can do anything you set your mind to, it's okay to be different - to be you, we all have unique gifts and talents. This offers a fantastic opportunity for kids to see themselves reflected in the character of Selma and to cheer her on. I love the illustrations, seemingly collage style, and they offer a great framework for a lot of crafts and activities inspired by them for all ages.

This book is about following your vision, but it also has that nice jolt of weirdness that I like in my picture books. Jon Klassen meets Jess Hannigan.
