L. Frank Baum was born May 15, 1856 in Chittenango, New York. After two years at the military academy, he worked as a reporter, actor, opera director and oil trader, commercial traveler and publisher of a magazine. After the success of The Wizard of Oz, he devoted himself entirely to writing. Frank Baum had four children and was married. In 1919 he died in Hollywood
